Sniper Shots are probably the highest form of gun safety in any live combat zone.
I know it sounds odd to refer to gun safety in a combat zone but a single shot firearm with a singular target vs. a fully automatic firearm in the same situation (I guess they had to have something to attach the phrase “collateral damage” to).
In this day of ‘Peace Keeping Forces’ in combat zones and civilians with video cameras on every phone with an internet connection to boot, SOP’s, safety protocols and operating policy have to be adhered to strictly or there may be a court case in your future, after you have saved your own life and the lives of those in your unit by using your firearm.
Gun Safety Statistics Do Not Lie
I’m no fool and I know this half-hearted sniper rifle argument won’t hold any weight with a grieving mother in the inner city who has just lost her child to a senseless shooting or a room full of Democtatic tree huggers who think the police will be there to protect them every time a bad guy shows up, but statistics are what they are, black and white numbers that don’t lie (usually).
Statistics show that murders and accidental death by shooting among responsible gun owners is almost non-existent along side the many other more acceptable ways to die, like not wearing a helmet, driving in a car, walking down the sidewalk, swimming, eating food and choking… and the list goes on.
I don’t see anybody making it illegal to own a car or enforce mandatory walking (although that could help in the long run, myself included).
But it is open season on guns because bad guys are doing what bad guys have been doing for hundreds of years, hurting people and taking their stuff.
If some how, guns, were completely removed from the picture in the next few years, I guarantee you that knives will be the next “what we should ban” item.
We have been doing horrible things to each other with what ever the latest and greatest “good idea gone wrong” since Cain and Able.
At least let Cain be worried that a Glock .40 might be staring him in the face if he fucks with the wrong Able, please.
